The committee will give recommendations on the curriculum, evaluation standards and credit system of vocational courses at the national level
Work will start on harmonizing vocational courses in the rapidly changing era of technology

The University Grants Commission has constituted a special committee at the national level to redraft the guidelines for vocational courses.
Vice Chancellor (VC) of Shri Vishwakarma Skill University (SVSU), Haryana, Dr Raj Nehru has been appointed chairman of this seven-member committee.
The committee will work on various dimensions related to the curriculum of vocational courses as well as assessment standards and credit system under the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF). There will be changes in the concept of vocational courses on the recommendation of the committee.
Chairman of this committee, Dr Nehru said, “Changes are taking place every day in the emerging technological sector. There is a need to make changes in the same proportion in vocational courses also. For this purpose, the University Grants Commission has constituted this committee.”
He said that new job roles were being created and changes were also being made in the functioning of old job roles. In the growing era of Artificial Intelligence and automation, the working style and requirements of the industry are also changing rapidly. We have to prepare vocational courses accordingly. Along with upgrading the courses, there is a need to change the standards of evaluation as well, he said.
Nehru further stated that the credit system in technical courses is expected to be further improved. The major objective will be to integrate skill education in general education in line with the National Education Policy and provide many multiple-choice opportunities to the students. The diverse utility of certificates will be aligned as per NEP 2020. There is a plan to move forward in this direction so that the students who get degree and diploma get directly connected with employment. This seven-member committee has been formed for this purpose.
He said that this committee constituted by the UGC would start its work soon.
On receiving this responsibility, Dr Nehru has expressed his gratitude to UGC Chairman Professor M Jagadesh Kumar.
Apart from Dr Nehru, Professor Supriya Patnaik, VC of Centurion University of Technology and Management, Bhupendra Godara, Professor of Practice, IIT Delhi, Dr V R Lalithambika, Professor of Practice, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, Professor Prashant Gupta of IM Nagpur, Santosh Kumar, Member Secretary, NCVET and Monica, Deputy Secretary, UGC (NSQF) have been made members of this committee.
