After giving its nod for setting up of ‘Open Air Jails’ in
the state, Haryana government is now mulling over establishing smoking zones in
jails.
This was informed by the Haryana Housing and Jail Minister
Krishan Lal Panwar while addressing a press conference here.
Panwar said that a total 140 mobile phone jammers were also
being installed in jails while open air jails were being set up in Karnal and
Faridabad.
He said, “So far, a jail inmate was allowed for 10-minute
phone calls in a week but now onward, it would be increased to 35 minutes for male
inmate while 60 minutes for female inmates in jails.”
Presently, apart from three central prisons, Haryana has 19
jails where nearly 19000 prisoners are lodged.
