After scaling Mount Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mount Elbrus in Europe, Haryana’s Mamta Sodha has added another feature to her cap having successfully climbed Mt Carstensz Pyramid, the highest mountain in Oceania, recently.
Her expedition was completed on March 22.
Sodha, a DSP in Haryana Police said, it was a great feeling hoisting the tri-colour at Mount Carstensz.
One of the highest peaks of the world, Carstensz Pyramid, is situated at 4,884 metres altitude located in Indonesia’s extremely remote and rugged West Papua region. The peak is also known as the highest point between the Himalayas and the Andes, better known as ‘island peak’ in the world.
“Now my aim is to conquer the tallest peaks in the remaining continents”, she said.
Prior to this achievement, she had also scaled Mt Everest in 2010, Mt Elbrus in 2012 and Mt Kilimanjaro in year 2013. She also participated in Aconcagua, highest peak of South America in 2013.
I have scaled the tallest peaks in Asia, Africa, Europe and Oceania and now I want to climb seven summits of the world, she added.
Sodha also thanked the Haryana Police as well as the State government for always supporting her in the mountaineering expedition.
For her successful 2010 attempt to scale highest peak Mount Everest, she was honoured by the Government of India, in 2014, by bestowing on her the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award, for her services to the field of mountaineering sport.
