Haryana Police head towards strengthening cyber cecurity against rising threats

Chandigarh,

October 30

Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur on Monday inaugurated 30 new workstations at the Haryana 112 office to bolster cyber security and address the rising menace of cybercrime.

This initiative aims not only to enhance the efficiency of handling cybercrime cases but also to foster collaboration among various agencies and stakeholders.

During the event, he engaged in a detailed discussion on the challenges associated with cybercrime with the officials present. Several senior officers of the police department attended the meeting and reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively to effectively combat cybercrime.

It was revealed during the meeting that there has been a concerning surge in cyberattacks in Haryana, primarily originating from West Bengal, Rajasthan, Mewat, and surrounding areas.

In response, a special initiative has been launched to strengthen efforts against cybercrime, including the dispatch of dedicated teams to different states. These teams will work closely with local authorities and cybercrime units.

The top cop emphasized that their aim is to prevent financial losses to the public due to cyber fraud. To promptly block funds affected by fraud, bank employees will collaborate with the cyber security team at the Haryana 112 office. This coordinated effort will enable immediate action on live cybercrime cases and work toward safeguarding victims. He stressed that every district should recognize the severity of cybercrime within its jurisdiction and adopt a proactive approach.

The police department has observed that cybercriminals open fake bank accounts by exploiting customer KYC details. To combat this, enhanced coordination with banks will be established to ensure effectiveness in the fight against cybercrime.

Furthermore, banks have been instructed to verify and identify customers rigorously. Telecom companies have been called upon to closely monitor suspicious phone numbers and rapid changes in phone numbers. These companies have committed to taking every possible measure to prevent the misuse of mobile numbers by cyber criminals. Kapur also urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid opening any suspicious links on their mobile phones. Individuals are advised not to share personal information related to their bank accounts with anyone, as a minor lapse in caution can make them vulnerable to cyber fraud.
