Haryana Police tightens noose on rapists, secures justice to child rape victims

Coming down heavily on offenders booked under POCSO Act and relevant provisions of IPC dealing with rape with children, Haryana police has succeeded in  securing justice to child rape victims over a dozen cases during last months.

As a result of these efforts during these last months, as many as 19 persons, who were accused of raping girls below 18 years, have been brought to justice through effective and concerted presentation of evidences before the concerned courts.

An official spokesperson said that in view of this, the Director General of Police Manoj Yadava immediately after taking over, had issued instruction to the district Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Commissioners of Police to ensure effective ‘pairvi’ of such cases.

Among the convictions secured for offenders who were facing trial for rape of child sex victims, Kaithal district Court on May 1 handed a life term to a man convicted for raping his minor daughter while the court of ADSJ, Kurukshetra on May 2 sentenced a man to life imprisonment alongwith fine of Rs 10000 for raping a five year old girl.

Similarly, Kurukshetra district court on May 4 sentenced three persons including a woman to 10 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10000 each after holding them guilty under POCSO Act. Court in Sonipat on May 4 convicted a man for raping his minor step daughter and sentenced 10 years imprisonment.

Court in Faridabad convicted a man for sodomising a minor and sentenced 10 years imprisonment.

Court in Gurugram on May 16 sentenced 20 years imprisonment to a man convicted for raping a minor while a court in Kurukshetra on May 18 has sentenced a man to seven years in prison for attempting to rape a minor girl. Court of ADSJ in Rewari sentenced a man to 20 years imprisonment after holding him guilty for kidnapping a raping a minor girl. Court in Rewari on May 21 has sentenced a man to 10 years in prison for raping a minor girl.

The spokesperson said, “In another case,  a court in Gurugram sentenced a Madhya Pradesh resident 10 years imprisonment after holding him guilty under POCSO Act registered in July 2017. Court in Sonipat handed 20 years term to a man convicted for raping a four year old girl. The Court also imposed fine of Rs 25000 on the convict, who would have to undergo 2 years additional imprisonment for non payment of fine.”

Court in Sonipat sentenced a man to 10 years imprisonment after holding him guilty for a raping a minor girl. It also imposed a fine of  Rs 22000 on convicted person. Court in Kaithal convicted a man of Jind district for kidnapping and raping a minor in 2018. The convict is awarded 20 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 31,000.

Court in Faridabad has convicted a man for raping a five and half year girl in year 2017. The convict is awarded 10 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 10000 while Panipat district court handed a life term to a man convicted for raping a five year old girl. The Court also imposed fine of Rs 65000 on the convict.

Court in Gurugram has sentenced five years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25000 to a man after holding him guilty under POCSO Act. Whereas, a court in Panchkula on April 12 handed life term to two brothers for raping a minor girl. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 60000 each on the two after convicting them under POCSO Act, the spokesperson added.

He informed that a court in Hisar has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for raping a minor girl after convicting him under POCSO Act while a court in Panipat has sentenced a man to 15 years in prison for raping a minor girl. The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 80000 on convicted person.

He said, “The DGP has congratulated the Investigating Officers for their high quality of investigation and effective presentations of evidences in the courts leading to their successful outcomes.”

The DGP has expressed the hope that these successful convictions of sex offenders would go a long way in curbing the evil of sex abuse in the society, said he.
