Journalism witnesses many changes from traditional pen to digital keyboard: Deputy CM

While highlighting the numerous challenges confronting the field of journalism in the present era, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala said that journalism has undergone significant transformations, changing from the traditional pen to the digital keyboard.These changes have brought forth both new opportunities and challenges for journalists.

He also stressed the importance of learning in the field itself and suggested that journalists should practice their craft with transparency and balance.

Chautala made these remarks during his address at the state-level convention and seminar organized by the Chandigarh and Haryana Journalist Union in Panchkula on Sunday. The event focused on the challenges faced by the media was presided over by Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the future presents a multitude of challenges in the era of information. It is paramount to scrutinize news from every angle to ensure that the truth reaches the general public. He noted that social media will continue to play a significant role in the future, and therefore, maintaining quality is imperative.

The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted recent government initiatives, including the raise in journalists’ pensions from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per month, as well as the provision of various benefits for journalists. In response to the union’s request, he announced to provide the benefit of cashless health facility soon. He also announced to allocate Rs 11 lakh from his discretionary fund to the union. Additionally, Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma announced to give Rs 5 lakh.

Chautala revealed that among the HSVP plots, 20 plots have been exclusively designated for journalists, lawyers, and judges. Efforts are being made to extend this facility to the district level. 

Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma also spoke on this occasion. In response to the union’s request, he assured that he would initiate discussions regarding the matter of railway passes and the potential exemption from toll taxes.
